Anna Hazare breaks fast after 12 days...!!

Anna Hazare ended his 12-day fast on Sunday morning before thousands of cheering supporters at Ramlila Maidan.

The 74-year-old Gandhian accepted a glass of tender coconut water mixed with honey from a Dalit and a Muslim girl -- Simran and Ikrah -- at 10:20 am on the dais at the Ramlila Ground ending over 288 hours of fast that began on August 16.

After a brief address, Hazare was driven straight to Medanta Medicity run by eminent cardiologist Dr Naresh Trehan who was attending to him along with his team during his entire period of fast. Hazare will stay in the hospital for two-three days.

"I have only suspended my agitation. I will not rest until all the changes that I look to are achieved," he said to a thunderous applause from thousands of his supporters waving tricolour and shouting slogans like 'Anna Hazare Zindabad'.

Flanked by his team members, including Shanti Bhushan, Prashant Bhushan, Arvind Kejriwal, Kiran Bedi and Manish Sisodia, Hazare said what has been achieved in Parliament yesterday is a victory of the people of India, democracy and those assembled in Ramlila Ground.

Maintaining that People's Parliament is bigger than "Parliament in Delhi", Hazare said that is why the Parliament had to listen to people's Parliament.

"This movement has created a faith that the country can be rid of corruption and we can go ahead with implementing laws and the Constitution made by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar," he said.

Referring to Parliament's decision to refer three of his demands - Citizen's charter, inclusion of lower bureaucracy and creation of Lokayuktas through Lokpal bill - for Standing Committee's consideration, he said, the country can be proud of this moment. Thirteen days of agitation has yielded fruits, he said.

Team India shaved front n back..EPIC SHAME..!!

s India's nearly 20-month reign as world's number one side formally came to an end, the ICC on Monday presented the Test Championship Mace to the Andrew Strauss-led England in recognition of their new status as the numero uno side in the five-day format.

Strauss received the mace after his team completed a 4-0 whitewash of India on the fifth day of the fourth and final Test at the Kennington Oval in London.

"I know England were determined to be number-one and through careful planning and a series of clinical performances, they have deservedly achieved their goal. They were clearly the most consistent side in the world over the past few years as evidenced by their determination to complete their series victory here at The Oval," said ICC CEO Haroon Lorgat.

"This achievement is just reward for the hard work from all the players and team management and the England and Wales Cricket Board and they no doubt will celebrate being on top of the world. It was a privilege to be here at The Oval to join a full house to watch another riveting day of Test match cricket," he added.

Strauss and his team were presented with the mace by Lorgat and Rod Riley, executive senior vice-president in Reliance Communications, after England beat India by an innings and eight runs.

"We are delighted to be number one and to have achieved that position with such a comprehensive series success. This has been a real team effort and everyone of the players, management and back-up staff deserve great credit. Becoming number one in the world was our stated ambition two and a half years ago and even though we have achieved that objective we will continue to look to build on this success," said Strauss.

England are the fourth team after Australia, South Africa and India to achieve the number-one position on the Reliance ICC Test rankings table.

England had sealed the number-one position after taking an unbeatable 3-0 at Edgbaston but victory in the fourth Test not only strengthened their position at the top but also dropped India into third position with 117 ratings points, one behind second-placed South Africa.

The Championship table will now be updated at the end of Sri Lanka and Australia series which starts on Wednesday in Galle.

ANNA Hazare Message to nation

ANNA HAZARE RELEASE

After protests through the day over the arrest of Anna Hazare, the Government is preparing to release him from Tihar Jail later tonight, say sources.Government sources also add that they never wanted Mr Hazare to be sent to Tihar Jail.

Mr Hazare was brought to Tihar Jail at 3:30 pm, eight hours after he was arrested. The 74-year-old activist has not touched any food or water all day. His hunger strike against corruption has begun, say those who are in touch with him.

At India Gate, a few hundred people gathered for a candlelight vigil. In other cities across the country, crowds gathered, making the same point - that they support Mr Hazare's call for action against corruption. The strength of the crowds varied. Thousands in Bangalore and Mumbai, a few hundred in Kolkata and Hyderabad.

What Mr Hazare is fighting is the Government's draft of a new bill to counter corruption among politicians and bureaucrats. Mr Hazare wants the Prime Minister and senior judges to be covered by the Lokpal Bill. He also believes that the Government has too hefty a vote inter selection of the Lokpal or ombudsman committee. Mr Hazare and his supporters have their own version of the Lokpal bill - which has also been criticized for imagining an ombudsman panel with totalitarian powers.   For now, though, it is the arrest of Mr Hazare that the Opposition has leapt upon. In Parliament, parties united to slam the government.

Reports says that Anna Hazare will continue his fast, immediatly after his release from Tihar jail.
